Scheme will open in 2022
A Sir Robert McAlpine joint venture has been given approval to start work on the £150m redevelopment of Springfield Hospital in Tooting.
The scheme for South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust includes building new mental health inpatient facilities with eight new inpatient wards. It will open in 2022.
McAlpine was named preferred bidder more than two years ago.
The work involves building new mental health facilities at Springfield as well as Tolworth Hospital in Surbiton.
The scheme, which will be carried out in joint venture with Japanese developer Kajima Partnerships, will be funded mostly by the redevelopment of surplus land at the 80-acre Springfield Hospital.
Designed by Danish architect, CF Møller, the development will also include 839 new homes, a 32-acre public park and school.
