Sector now headed by Craig Allen after Mike Hickson left in spring

Sir Robert McAlpine has confirmed that its defence business has been merged into its industrial sector arm led by managing director Craig Allen.

McAlpine launched a standalone defence business headed by Mike Hickson two years ago.

But Hickson left in April with the former British army officer now an advisor to defence and security company Ashbourne Strategic Consulting.

Defence now sits in McAlpine’s industrial sector headed by Craig Allen

McAlpine had identified defence as one of its core sectors several years ago but in an interview with Building two years ago, Hickson admitted the defence sector can be “notoriously slow”.

In a statement, McAlpine said: “Defence remains an important part of our growth strategy and is led by our Industrial Sector managing director Craig Allen.

“With a strong pipeline of opportunities and renewed national focus on strengthening defence capability and resilience, we look forward to continuing to support the sector and contributing to its future for many years to come.”

McAlpine has said that industrial is one of its three core areas along with commercial and healthcare.
