Work on £23m job to finish in 2023

Northern Irish firm McLaughlin & Harvey has won a prestigious contract to build a £25m collections and research centre for the V&A in east London.

The centre, which was designed by US practice Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the firm behind the planned Centre for Music on the current Museum of London site, will be located at Here East – the new iteration of the Queen Elizabeth media centre at the former Olympic Park in Stratford.

It is part of the V&A East scheme and will become home to 250,000 objects, 350,000 books and over 1,000 archives spanning the breadth of the V&A’s collection.

McLaughlin & Harvey, which is one of two firms left in the running for the £70m scheme to build the main stadium for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, is due to finish work in 2023 with the centre open to the public once it completes.
