Pawson, who is famous for his minimalist, zen-like style, spent some time in a Cistercian monastery to research the project. The British Pavilion was this year curated by Peter Cook, Royal Gold Medalist for architecture in 2002, who asked nine avant-garde British architects to present exhibits in stylistic or rhetorical contrast to each other.
