Pre-tax profit at Mitie Group rose 12% from £33m to £37m in the six months to 30 September 2008.

Turnover at the facilities management business grew 11% from £682m to £760m.

Its property services division achieved a turnover of £160m, with £9.4m earnings before interest, tax and amortisation.

The company pointed to its low net debt of £12.6m and said its 5.1% margin had been maintained over the period.

Ruby McGregor-Smith, chief executive, said: “The current unparalleled uncertainty within the economy has an impact on all businesses, but our key markets remain attractive as customers develop their risk management and operational strategies and consider new ways of outsourcing.”

Mitie’s deals include a £40m project for Kent schools.
