Northern housebuilder reports encouraging private sales rates

Housebuilder and developer MJ Gleeson has reported reservations of homes up 10% in the period since its financial year end in July.

The firm said visitor numbers per site had remained steady, and the number of private sales completed had risen 15%. However, the firm said that because of a failure to close a number of large bulk sales to housing associations, the overall number of sales was down an unspecified amount.

Its private order book stands at 83 homes, compared to 52% at the same point last year, an increase of 60%.

The company said it was “encouraged by the achievements of both Gleeson Regeneration and Homes and Gleeson Strategic Land in challenging circumstances and remains confident that they are together laying the foundations of a strong and sustainable improvement in the group’s performance.”
