North Stand rebuild part of wider redevelopment to take Villa Park’s capacity above 50,000
Morrisroe subsidiary Kingscote Construction has unveiled more details of its work to rebuild Aston Villa’s North Stand.
The firm said that J&D Pierce and King & Moffatt Building Services will be used for the steel frame and M&E packages respectively.
The £100m job marks a move into main contracting for Hertfordshire-based Morrisroe with the firm previously saying that 40% of the work will be carried out by in-house businesses including Morrisroe Demolition, GSS Piling and Piper Joinery.
Work, which has been expected to finish at the end of next year, is now slated to complete in time for the start of the 2027/28 football season. The ground is due to stage Euro 2028 matches the following summer.
The scheme, which has been designed by Grimshaw, is intended to eventually take capacity at the Europa League winner’s stadium to above 50,000 from its current 42,500.
The job will increase the North Stand’s capacity from 6,537 to 12,516 seats with other works including 500sq m of team facilities, including new changing rooms, and upgraded hospitality areas.
The wider project team for the Villa Park expansion includes cost consultant Core Five, town planning and transport consultant WSP, structural engineer David Smith Associates and MEP engineer ME Engineers.
The last major work at Villa Park was Christiani & Nielsen’s scheme to rebuild the Trinity Road stand in 2000 with the North Stand now the oldest at the ground having been completed in 1977.
