The Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor of Excellence (ICE) will link Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Ranipet and Hosur, enhancing the connectivity between the region's existing transport networks including two international airports and the port of Chennai.

Special economic zones will also be included in the corridor, along with industrial and IT parks, universities and social infrastructure such as housing, healthcare and schools.

The ICE scheme was initiated as part of the government's industrial policy, which is being implemented to encourage globally competitive infrastructure and promote sustainable industrial development in the state.

Ramesh Kumar, Mott MacDonald's project director described it as a “significant and prestigious” project. He added that it would “help address the need for an integrated approach to infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu, to meet the demands of India's growing economy.”

The corridor development plan will be prepared in two phases over a period of 10 months. As part of the study, Mott MacDonald will forecast industrial growth in the region, identify infrastructure requirements and make recommendations for sustainable land use and appropriate investment mechanisms.
