Adjudicators will this month rule on a series of claims between contractor Multiplex and Wembley National Stadium Limited

Wembley contractor Multiplex has entered into adjudication with client Wembley National Stadium Limited in the first stage of a bitter legal battle which could take months to resolve.

It is understood that adjudicators will this month rule on a series of claims between the two over who bears responsibility for the stadium’s lengthy delays. Multiplex claims delays are due to design changes made by WNSL, which WNSL denies.

If the parties fail to reach an agreement during adjudication, the claims could go to court. Multiplex is understood to be claiming around £150m from WNSL, with that amount increasing as the project continues to drop behind schedule.

The adjudication follows a deepening animosity between the two sides on the project. Multiplex claimed yesterday that it was “unlikely” the stadium would be ready for the FA Cup final next year because of delays to works it says are the responsibility of WNSL.
