Number of staff hit 4,700 last year
Pre-tax profit at Murphy went up a fifth last year as the firm said its order book was now at a record £8bn.
The firm, which carries out building and civils work across the UK, Ireland, Canada and more recently Australia, said its business was benefitting from better contract selection and risk management.
Pre-tax profit rose 21% to £102m on turnover up 14% to £1.6bn with net cash at the year-end edging up 3% to £412m.

The firm, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, said its order book hit a record £8.1bn.
The number of staff during the year was up 16% to 4,700 with the firm having 500 projects ongoing at any one time.
