The Chicago and China offices of architect Skidmore, Owings & Merrill have designed a plan for an energy-producing central park in Beijing’s Dawangjing district

The plan, which won an international competition to guide the area’s redevelopment, showcases integrated solutions for energy, water conservation and transit systems. The scheme for Beijing Chaoyang District Planning Bureau will support up to 1.5 million m2 of potential mixed development, built in phases.
