Architect RyderHKS has unveiled images of its designs for Newcastle's £40m library renewal PFI.

Two buildings are to be replaced, the City Library (pictured) and the High Heaton library. The City Library will include a large atrium, a 200-seat performance space and a host of environment-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting and low-energy heating and cooling. The scheme will also involve improvements to the city's Princess Square. Kajima has been selected as preferred bidder.
