Australian firm's Sohar University scheme features campus of 12 buildings

Designs for a £54m university campus in Oman have been unveiled by Australian practice Noel Robinson Architects (nra).

The 12-building Sohar University scheme comprises a library, graduation hall, lecture theatres, faculty buildings and sporting facilities. Sustainable features include grey-water recycling.

Noel Robinson, founder of nra, said Oman was a largely “untapped market” and could set an example on sustainable design to the rest of the region.

He said: “Oman is more understated than the neighbouring UAE and has a lot to offer in terms of its rich cultural heritage, natural environment, varied climate and beautiful coastline.

“Oman has immense potential to lead the region in sustainable development in the Middle East, particularly in integrated tourism development and education.”

The two hectare scheme is expected to complete by 2011.
