Lord Foster is awarded a Great Briton Award for his outstanding British Achievement in the Creative Industries.

Norman Foster has been awarded the inaugural Great Briton Award for outstanding British Achievement in the Creative Industries. The awards celebrate the international success of Britons and were held last night at the Royal Courts of Justice.

There were seven different categories of award in which the public nominated their Great Britons. A panel then assessed the “British” characteristics of each nominee such as strength and determination, adaptability, modesty and sense of humour.

In the award citation for Foster the judges said he was the UK’s “most celebrated architect” and praised his ability to combine functionality and beauty.

On accepting the award Lord Foster said: “I am very honoured and absolutely delighted. It is wonderful news for architecture.”
