Pianissimo: The Renzo Piano Building Workshop’s £45m basilica at San Giovanni Rotondo in southern Italy, which began construction in 1995, is expected to finish this summer. The 900 m2 Padre Pio pilgrimage church is a large, low-lying dome that is expected to accommodate up to 37,000 visitors to the home of a monk who developed stigmata. The client is the Capuchin Monks of Frati Minori Cappuccini, and the project team includes UK consultant Arup.
