Images show corrosion to prefabricated concrete panels

The damage which has forced the closure of the Hammersmith flyover for the forseeable future can be revealed.

Pictures obtained by BBC London News show the rusting of cables in the prefabricated concrete trusses supporting the flyover.

Transport for London said on Friday that it was closing the 50-year old structure for at least another week while it examines the extent of the damage.

It also committed itself to putting a solution in place to deal with the damage, caused by water and salt water ingress into joints in the concrete, before the Olympics.
