The Elephant & Castle Regeneration Project considers using alternative energy on £1.5bn Southwark regeneration project.

Environmental consultants have been appointed by the the Elephant & Castle Regeneration Project to look at whether Southwark Council’s £1.5bn development can provide its own heating, cooling and power.

Inventa Partners and Brian Dunlop Associates will look at the feasibility of using renewable energy and alternative sources of water supply on the project. They will also consider climate responsive architecture and Urban Design; on-site generation of heat and power; and community heating and power infrastructure.

Chris Horn, The Elephant & Castle urban redevelopment project director, said: "We have set ourselves very stretching goals for energy efficiency and sustainable development in order to meet the social and environmental needs of the generations that will live and work in the area.

Innovation consultant Inventa Partners and consulting engineers Brian Dunlop will also advise on the feasibility of establishing a public/ private joint venture energy and environmental services company to provide heating, cooling and power.

They will identify new technologies for the project team and source potential commercial partners and alternative funding.
