Scheme intended to be 35% affordable
Plans by 3DReid have been submitted to the City of Edinburgh Council to build more than 950 homes on the edge of the Scottish capital.
Regeneration developer Summix Capital has put forward proposals for a residential-led, mixed-use scheme at Edinburgh Gateway, the site of the former Saica packaging facility in West Edinburgh.
The 6.3ha brownfield site is allocated in Edinburgh’s city plan for residential-focused redevelopment.
3DReid’s scheme includes more than 950 homes, including around 35% affordable, as well as a new hotel with more than 170 bedrooms.
It will include the provision of accessible family homes and build-to-rent across seven development plots, as well as a network of new streets and public spaces.
The masterplan comprises seven development plots, with Plots 1 and 2 allocated for private sale housing. Plots 3 and 4 are designated for Build to Rent homes, while Plots 5 and 6 are intended to deliver affordable housing. Plot 7 is reserved for a new hotel.
Stuart Black, development director for Summix Capital, said: “Our exciting proposals provide a unique opportunity to redevelop one of the last major pieces of brownfield land in the city into a brand-new, sustainable mixed-use community, supporting the tackling of the housing emergency.
“The planning application follows extensive engagement with the local community, and we would like to thank individuals for taking the time to provide highly valued comments and feedback.”
