£12m Prospects college designed by Fraser Brown MacKenna will go-ahead thanks to government grant.

Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects is to design a new £12m vocational skills college in Southend following a grant award from the Office of the Deputy Prime minister.

Neil Bates, chief executive of Prospects College said: “The grant from the Sustainable Communities fund is wonderful news and will allow us to realise our ambition of creating a new vocational college for skills.

Prospects College is currently looking at sites in Southend with developer Cityscape, and Fraser Brown MacKenna is asssembling a consultant team.

The college will be aiming to increase the number of training places in construction and enginnering. Bates said: “Construction employment in Essex is set to grow form 35,000 to 38,000 by and nearly 2,000 entrantrs will be needed in craft occupations alone simply to meet existing levels of demand.”
