ONS said private commercial work fell 4.5% in three months to November
Construction output fell 1.1% in the three months to November, latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
It was the sector’s sharpest fall for a quarter since the three months to March 2023, the ONS added.
Both new work and repair and maintenance decreased by 1% and 1.1% respectively. Within new work, private commercial new work suffered with the largest reverse with a fall of 4.5%.

In repair and maintenance, the largest negative contributor came from private housing repair and maintenance, which fell by 3.7%.
Monthly output figures for construction were no better with the number falling 1.3% in November, up from the 1.2% decrease the previous month which itself was revised from an initial 0.6% fall.
But there was better news for the wider economy with GDP growing 0.3% in November, an improvement from the 0.1% fall in October.
