Contractor Laing O'Rourke has completed the first phase of the £30m redevelopment of Aintree racecourse in Merseyside in time for next month's Grand National.

The first phase of the development, designed by architect Building Design Partnership, includes a weighing room, an enlarged parade ring and winner's enclosure and new stables. The second phase, which will begin after the meeting, will include the construction of two five-tier grandstands linked by a walkway and bar areas. EC Harris is project supervisor and planning supervisor on the project.
