Rok boss Garvis Snook said he was “furious” after repeatedly being assured that a division which eventually suffered a £6.4m loss was doing fine

Last week Rok announced a pre-tax loss of £3.8m for the six months to 30 June. The disappointing figure was primarily caused by an unspotted £6.4m loss in its plumbing, heating and electrical division.

Snook said he was “furious” and “incredulous” when he found out about the black hole, which prompted the suspension of the firm’s finance director, Ashley Martin.

Snook said: “It would be true to say I challenged the information I was being provided [with] on a number of occasions during the last year, and investigations were carried out as a result of that.”

He continued: “Perhaps I should have dug a lot deeper.”
