The government is to host a construction round table meeting to examine the use of labour agencies in the industry.
The industry will be given an opportunity to voice its concerns over agencies it claims use untrained workers, or do not employ workers properly.

The meeting is expected to be attended by construction unions, employers and training bodies.

A DTI spokesman said that a response from the industry was necessary, as part of feedback to a discussion document on July's employment status review.

The spokesman stressed that the meeting would not include discussion about bogus self-employment within the industry.

He said that the government was looking at this, and it would be dealt with by the Inland Revenue.
