English Partnerships narrows field to nine companies for third stage of competition.

English Partnerships has narrowed its shortlist of housbuilders for John Prescott’s competition to build a £60,000 house to nine companies.

The companies that have made it to the final stage of the competition are:

●Northern Edge, including Three Rivers Housing, Yorkshire Housing, South Yorkshire Housing Association, Tees Valley Housing Group and MacKellar Architects

Redrow

●William Verry

●SIXTYK Consortium

●The Countryside Consortium, including Countryside Properties, Hyde Group, Acton Housing Association, Metropolitan Housing Housing Trust, Presentation and PCKO Architects

Westbury.

The firms beat off competition from bidders including Persimmon and Taylor Woodrow to reach the third stage of the competition. They will now be invited to bid to develop homes on one or more of the 10 public sector-owned sites set aside for development.

The winners have until 4 October to submit proposals for the first four sites, in Milton Keynes, Northampton, Maidstone and Leeds. Deadlines for further sites will be released in the next few weeks.

EP will choose overall winners of the competition by the end of the year.
