BAA has released images of the fourth section of the Terminal 5 roof at Heathrow as it was being lifted into position earlier this month. Although it weighs 900 tonnes, this is the smallest section of the roof to be raised, and it took engineers just six hours to put it into position. Two further sections, each weighing 2500 tonnes, will complete the structure, which is set to be complete by early next year. The giant

waveform roof is the size of a football pitch and will be 30 m off the ground. The project team included architect Richard Rogers Partnership, engineer Arup, steelwork contractor Severfield-Rowen and main contractor Laing O’Rourke.
