Six people have been injured after a cherry-picker collapsed through the roof of a bus near Croydon.

The machine, which was being used on roadworks in Brighton Road, near Purley, crashed through a bus window on Saturday evening. One passenger was seriously injured when a piece of metal speared through his neck.

Five others were treated at the scene of the incident, which occurred when the bus hit a road resurfacing unit at about 6.40 pm on Saturday. Firefighters were forced to tear off the top of the bus with cutting equipment in order to free the passengers.
