City and Islington College in north London was reopened this week by education secretary Ruth Kelly after it was given a makeover by Wilkinson Eyre Architects.

The refurbishment of the 1960s slab block has entailed adding a dramatic glass screen that projects one metre in front

of the facade and serves as a buffer to a main road. William Verry was the main contractor, with Arup as structural and services engineer, Davis Langdon as quantity surveyor and Boyden and Co as employer's agent.
