Contractor to work with GrantRail on DLR extension to Stratford International station for 2012

Contractor Skanska has won a £39m civil engineering contract for the Docklands Light Rail extension to Stratford International station in East London.

Skanska will work with GrantRail, a joint venture between steel giant Corus and contractor Volker Wessels, to improve the DLR for the 2012 London Olympics.

Key elements of the project include:

  • Construction of two new platforms on the north side of Stratford station, where North London Line national rail services will terminate
  • Track alignment work to prepare for the new rail link between Stratford and Stratford International
  • Construction of the shell and foundations of the new DLR station at Stratford International
Work will start immediately and is scheduled for completion in February 2009.
