Bovis chairman John Spanswick will promote the construction industry's role in HSC strategy and programmes.

Bovis chairman John Spanswick has been appointed to the Health and Safety Commission.

In his new role, announced yesterday by Work and Pensions minister John Hutton, Spanswick will aim to promote the construction industry's role in HSC strategy and programmes.

He will take up his post on May 1, 2006. His application to the commission was sponsored by The Major Contractors Group.

Spanswick said: "I hope I will be able to give further support to the existing strong efforts of the Commission, particularly in the areas outlined in their strategy.

"This document identifies a number of key goals if we are to improve health and safety in the British workplace for the benefit of all, and I believe these are achievable".
