Mark Castle to take up post in January
Regional contractor Speller Metcalfe has appointed Mace’s former chief operating officer for its construction business Mark Castle as its first non-executive chairman.
The firm, which has offices in Malvern and Wolverhampton, said Castle will join the board in January next year.
Castle spent 19 years at Mace before leaving in spring 2021. He joined the business from Structure Tone in 2004, having earlier spent seven years at Wates.

He was recruited to set up the firm’s fixed-price contracting business, Mace Plus, and was later promoted to the Mace group board in 2013.
Speller Metcalfe joint managing director James Speller said: “Mark brings with him outstanding experience and a deep understanding of our industry that will help shape our strategic direction and enhance the forward-thinking culture that defines our business.”
The firm was set up in 1995 and in its last set of accounts posted a £3.4m pre-tax profit on income of £162m in the year to March.
Castle added: “The company’s reputation places it at the forefront of the industry, and I’m pleased to be joining at such an exciting point in its growth story.”
Castle was a previous chair of Build UK and currently holds non-executive posts at built environment software specialist Eleco, Triangle Fire Group and housebuilder Taylor Wimpey.
