Douglas McCormick will take the helm at Sweett next month

Sweett Group has hired former Atkins rail managing director Douglas McCormick as its new chief executive.

McCormick (pictured) will assume the role from 2 March 2015. Current executive chairman John Dodds - who assumed the responsibilities of chief executive four months ago after Dean Webster retired early from the role last October - will revert to being non-executive chairman.

At Atkins McCormick was most recently group managing director for rail, managing more than £200m of revenue and over 1,700 staff across the UK, India and China. He left this post in July 2014.

Prior to joining Atkins in 2002, McCormick was commercial director at Metronet Alliance and Trans4m, and had previously been a project management director at Faithful + Gould for Scotland and Ireland.

He is a fellow of the RICS, a commisioner for the UK Commission for Employment and Skills and a non-executive director of the Institute for Collaborative Working.

Dodds said: “I am delighted to announce Douglas’s appointment as chief executive of Sweett Group. He has the ideal background and combination of skills necessary to reinvigorate the company and I am looking forward to working with him in taking Sweett into the next stage of its development.”
