M&E contractor announces pre-tax profit of £3.65m for the six months to 30 June 2005.

M&E contractor T Clarke has reported a 6% rise in profits for the first half of the year, despite admitting it had faced pressure on margins of its core divisions.

The contractor reported pre-tax profits of £3.65m for the six months to 30 June 2005, compared with £3.45m over the same period last year. Turnover rose 28% to £96.1m from £71.2m.

Pat Stanborough, chief executive, said: “Despite pressure on margins within our core operations, the group has delivered a very solid set of results. We can approach 2006 and 2007 with increasing confidence.”

The company’s results were boosted by a strong performance in London, with sales being driven by an upturn in the commercial property market in the capital in both the fit-out and new-build sectors. T Clarke has recently won a number of major projects in the area including work on the White City shopping centre and the Allen and Overy offices.
