Electrical contractor T Clarke has warned M&E union Amicus that 99 of its workers face being made redundant as a result of delays to some of its projects.
Amicus regional officer Frank Westerman said the firm had warned workers that it did not have jobs for them once their present contracts came to an end.

He said: "Originally T Clarke warned that 140 workers would be at risk but that has now been scaled down to 99 due to some workers being redeployed to other sites."

Westerman said he was working with the contractor to try to avoid the job losses and was hopeful that the situation would change soon as large contracts became available.

Under industrial relations law, employers have to notify unions 100 days before they are due to announce any large-scale redundancies.

This could be the second wave of job cuts at T Clarke; in December last year the company made 34 redundancies after it closed its office in Bournemouth, Dorset.

T Clarke's company secretary John Daley refused to comment.
