London Eye architect Marks Barfield's latest addition to the River Thames, the Millbank Millennium Pier, will be officially opened at the end of May. The scheme was this month lifted into water at the dockside in Rochester before being transported to its final destination outside the Tate Britain museum. The pier was commissioned by London River Services and funded by the Millennium Commission, developer was Tishman Speyer and Tate. The project team includes structural engineer Beckett Rankine Partnership, contractor Mowlem Marine, steelwork contractor K&N Welding, M&E contractor Phillipsons, and lighting artist Angela Bulloch with specialist lighting by DAL.
