Pictured left is one of four designs that have been unveiled by Marks Barfield Architects for a £425m Thames Gateway bridge between Beckton and Thamesmead in east London. Transport for London has begun a public consultation on the scheme that will end on 12 August; after that, further consultation is expected to take place through the parliamentary process or at public inquiry. In a poll of 1500 people last year, 80% of Eastenders supported the idea of a bridge, with 3% against the idea.
