The View from The Shard officially opens to the public today

Mayor of London Boris Johnson will cut a ribbon before visitors are welcomed up to the viewing platform on Level 72 of the building, which stands as the highest vantage point in western Europe.

He will be joined by architect Renzo Piano for the opening.

On a clear day, visitors to the Shard - which at a height of 1,016ft is London’s tallest building – can see for 40-miles.

However, wet and cloudy weather means visibility could be restricted for the thousands who have already paid for admission today.
