Competency cards will now be offered in engineer design, curtain and blind installation and fenestration.

CSCS cards will be available for three extra occupations in a further move towards achieving a fully qualified workforce across the construction industry.

Cards will now be offered in civil and structural engineering design, curtain and blind installation and fenestration. Applicants in each category will have to pass the construction health and safety test as well as demonstrate skills competency.

CSCS secretary general Bill Jenkins said that the additional occupations would help the scheme to achieve its goal of raising standards across the industry. He said: "We are delighted to welcome three new occupations to CSCS."

"More and more clients and employers, large and small, are demanding that operatives hold CSCS cards because they understand it means workers are competent in the requisite skills and have up-to-date health and safety awareness."

220 occupations are now covered by CSCS and over 700,000 construction industry workers, including affiliated and amalgamated schemes, have been issued with cards.
