Transient translucency: Zaha Hadid Architects has won a competition to design a temporary Guggenheim Museum in Tokyo, which is expected to be used for 10 years. The architect for the 116 m2 structure was chosen from an invited list of three, which included Shigeru Ban and Jean Nouvel. According to Hadid, the design will feature a lightweight envelope, "like sheets of paper leaning against each other", which will be curved to reduce the overall surface area by about 10%.
