Vice presidential appointment sets Mike Kagioglou up for presidency in just over a year

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is set for its first vice president from Oceania after choosing Western Sydney University professor Mike Kagioglou for the role.

His appointment will see him become the organisation’s 121st president in 2024, succeeding Sandi Rhys Jones, who will herself succeed current president Datuk Seri Michael Yam in the summer of 2023.

A CIOB fellow since 2015, Kagioglou has been an advocate of strong links between industry and academia over an almost three-decade career which has seen him hold positions at the University of Huddersfield and University of Salford.

He is currently dean of engineering, design and built environment, as well as pro-vice chancellor for global development, at Western Sydney University.

Kagigoglou said he would bring his “expertise and global reach to CIOB, championing its drive for professionalism in the sector”.
