New schemes takes developer's programme of work to over £1bn in the last three months.

Developer Wilson Bowden has been selected to develop £400m of mixed use schemes in Woolwich and a £225m project in Barnsley, taking its total programme of new schemes to more than £1bn over the last three months.

Powis Street Estates (PSE) has selected Wilson Bowden Developments to jointly work on four possible schemes within Woolwich town centre, which will total more than 700,000 sq ft of mixed office, retail and leisure uses. There will also be the potential for more than 500 housing units.

Wilson Bowden Developments has also been selected by the 1249 Regeneration Partnership to redevelop Barnsley Markets. The scheme will provide 475,000 sq ft of retail and leisure accommodation and will be focused around a new and vibrant market hall.

Barnsley has not seen any significant retail development over recent years and the new scheme will include a department store, shops, a cinema, restaurants and other leisure facilities.

Ian Robertson, Chief Executive of Wilson Bowden said: "Woolwich town centre is a key focus for urban regeneration in London over the next five to ten years and we are delighted to be involved in this major project in partnership with PSE."

"Barnsley is a major regeneration project, creating a high quality retail and leisure destination, bringing energy and vibrancy to the town centre. It is a true public/private sector partnership and we look forward to working with 1249 Regeneration Partnership to deliver our combined objectives.'

In the past two months, Wilson Bowden Developments has won three other major town centre schemes in Northwich, Macclesfield and Oldham, amounting to 1 million ft2 of commercial floorspace. These schemes sit together with other town projects at Wrexham and Bolton.
