Acorn Property Chippenham plan involves replacing shopping centre with more than 200 homes

Plans to transform a 1980s shopping centre in Wiltshire have been approved by the country council.

Emery Gate in the market town of Chippenham will be replaced with a £50m mixed-use scheme comprising 225 homes.

Developer Acorn Property is behind the plan which has been called Chippenham Riverside because of its proximity to the river Avon.

How the new scheme will look

Designed by HNW Architects, the masterplan includes a series of seven new buildings with landscaped outdoor parades, squares, mews and terraces over the existing refurbished subterranean car park.

There would be 102 one-bedroom, 115 two-bedroom and eight three-bedroom dwellings, all for open market sale.

As well as a houses, the scheme will 4,000sq m of commercial space earmarked for retail, health and leisure use.
