Wimpey built 7,822 homes in first half of financial year and increased order book by 8% to £1bn

George Wimpey has announced a 19% increase in completions compared to last year. The figure of 7,822 homes is the highest level the housebuilder has seen in the last 25 years.

The company reported a 28% increase in first half completions in the UK. Average sale rates have been significantly more than last year and, at the end of June, the forward order book stood at £1.058bn, up 8% on last year’s figure.

Even though sales in the US suffered due to the slower market conditions, overall the company predicts its 2006 results to be in line with expectations.

The interim results for the period will be announced on August 1, 2006.
