Deal will run for up to 15 years
Morgan Sindall, Costain and Hochtief have won work worth up to £2.9bn to carry out non-nuclear infrastructure work at the Sellafield site in Cumbria.
The three will deliver projects to support essential services at Sellafield like electricity distribution, water, road and rail networks, bridges, foundations and security installations.
Called the Infrastructure Delivery Partnership, the deal will run for an initial nine years with an option to extend for a further six taking it up to 2040.
The work has been split into three lots with Morgan Sindall Infrastructure appointed as electrical distribution partner, Costain as utilities partner and Hochtief on civils.
The awards come as a survey by trade group the Civil Engineering Contractors Association said the growth in civils’ workloads was the weakest since the height of the covid pandemic more than five years ago.
It said only 7% of firms reported increased workloads on balance in its latest workload survey.
Growth was limited to just two sectors, electricity and water and sewerage, while other areas, including roads, rail and communications, all experienced contraction.
