The Chinese market is beginning to open up to specialist contractors from the UK, say industry experts.

The director of the British Centre for Buildings and Construction in China, Geoff Mills, who will speak at a Building conference on the Chinese market next month, said that a number of UK specialist firms were showing an interest in the market.

Mills said: “It isn’t just low-hanging fruit any more There has to be a serious commitment from companies to enter what is a very competitive market – China is now the world’s biggest investment location.”

The changes have followed China’s entry into the World Trade Organisation in 2001.

The one-day Building conference, called “Winning Work In China”, will take place on Tuesday 1 November at the Mayfair Conference Centre in London.
