Blueprint identifies 33 potential development sites

Wolverhampton city council has approved a long-term regeneration blueprint for the city centre, which could deliver 6,750 new homes.

The Our Future City Centre Plan proposes 33 potential development sites across 10 regeneration areas, with 4,600 of the homes due for completion by 2042.

The council said: “Each area has a distinct role, character and set of opportunities, ranging from the civic, retail and cultural heart of Queen Square and St Peter’s, to major mixed-use and residential growth areas at Darlington, St George’s, Canalside, Chapel Ash and Graiseley, and strategically important innovation, education, transport and visitor economy locations at the Interchange, Springfield and Molineux.”

While many of the sites included in the blueprint are already underway or have secured planning permission, the plan will be updated annually to reflect current market conditions and opportunities.

Alongside new homes, the plan aims to prioritise greener public spaces, improved connectivity, health and education infrastructure as well as retail, leisure and community facilities.

Regeneration areas identified for development:

  • St Peter’s: 300-400 homes
  • Interchange: 100-150 homes
  • Darlington: 1,200-1,400 homes
  • St George’s: 200-350 homes
  • Canalside: 1,700-1,800 homes
  • Springfield: 1,100-1,200 homes
  • Molineux: 900-1,000 homes
  • Chapel Ash: 300-350 homes
  • Graiseley: 300-350 homes
