Alex Herbert has worked for more than a decade on the client side in the energy sector
WSP has hired a new major projects director for its planning and consents business.
Alex Herbert’s appointment is meant to strengthen the consultant’s capability to support nationally significant infrastructure projects, including major energy schemes.

Herbert (pictured) has worked for more than a decade in client-side roles with organisations including RWE Renewables, Low Carbon, Horizon Nuclear Power and Tidal Lagoon Power.
“We’re seeing growing demand from clients navigating the complexity of major infrastructure planning and consenting, particularly across the energy sector,” said Gareth Howells, managing director for Planning & Consents at WSP.
“Alex’s experience – especially from the client side - gives him a deep understanding of the challenges developers face, and the practical solutions needed to unlock delivery. His appointment strengthens our ability to support projects that are critical to the UK’s net zero ambitions.”
