Centurian Security has installed a comprehensive £1/4m security system incorporating CCTV access control, door entry and a personal attack system for staff at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
The security system, which uses Baxall's Pyramid Matrix system, was installed in the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department as part of a major upgrade.
It features 55 baxall colour cameras installed internally and externally, covering all main circulation areas, such as corridors, and the main entrances. These were chosen by Centurian for their high resolution, said to have been an important consideration because they were fed to a Sony digital recorder capable of exceptionally high res images.
The Pyramid matrix system
provides full control of the camera functions, recorder and multiplexers and allows any camera to be held and sequenced on any monitor including the Vista monitors in the main entrance which have bullet proof glass.
The A&E Department is Britain's third busiest.
Levi's external protection
Sonic Security Services completed work on a new extension of the Levi Strauss clothing company using equipment from Security Enclosures.
As part of the CCTV and access control system, Sonic used long range external protection products from Security Enclosures. These detectors provide coverage at key parts of the site and are directly interfaced into the site's CCTV system to automatically position dome cameras in the event of an alarm.
A spokesperson for Sonic said: "The system requires large external areas to be covered around the building. We chose a number of different models from the Security Enclosures range after having previous experience with the detectors."
Sonic, established in 1992, is NACOSS and SSAIB approved and based in Kettering.
Control over Dockland apartments
Kent based Midnight Security & Com-munications has installed a Kantech access control system at the prestigious Port East Apartments at West India Key in London's Docklands.
The Kantech WinPass 64 system controls 19 doors and the car park entrance and exit barrier, allowing access to certain parts of the complex only to those who have permission.
The system uses the IoProx proximity readers for entry to all areas of the building and Midnight has incorporated an IoProx reader within the video door entry panel at the main entrance.
Safer staff at hospital
ADT Fire & Security has installed sophisticated fire and security systems worth £150,000 at the Accident and Emergency Department at Kings College Hospital, South East London.
ADT provided the hospital with its Care Communication Package which includes two security systems, along with round the clock monitoring.
The Zetler Medicall 800 nursecall system provides nurses and attendants with instant notification when a patient requires attention.
In situations where staff need protection , ADT's Staff Attack Systems allow them to alert others and bring assistance via a hand-held transmitter.
The company also installed a Waiting Room/Patient Information System within the hospital.
Access to luxury
Modtec Security has installed door entry and access control equipment in an award winning development at Westfield, Hampstead.
Westfield comprises nine apartment buildings surrounded by award winning landscaped gardens. The 150 luxury apartments have received awards from the Evening Standard and What House?
Modtec installed BPT VTD/100 digital video entrance panels. Unlike analogue entry panels with a single push button for every apartment, the compact panels can accommodate all calls from the keypad. There are also fourteen vandal resistant audio panels located at the entrance and exit gates to the underground car park, pedestrian entrances to the development and entrances to the apartment buildings for the car park.
BPT VM/100 handsets are fixed in the entrance halls and a total of 25 doors have the BPT Impro Multiscan IV proximity system fitted.
A BPT VPD/100 digital switchboard has been installed at the porter's desk. All apartments have a Modtec security alarm system installed.
Remote surveillance
ISS Security has launched a state of the art remote surveillance system in London's Docklands that can survey sites anywhere in the country.
From its London base, trained staff will "patrol" sites 24 hours a day. From its headquarters ISS staff are able to turn on and off lights, open barriers and gates, activate and de-activate intruder alarms and monitor all entrances for both pedestrian and vehicular access.
They can communicate with people onsite via audio systems to inform them they are being viewed and also confirm access of authorised personnel.
ISS has 104 contracts including the Natural History Museum, Southwark Council and Mersey way shopping centre.
System in 'from scratch'
BWS Security Systems has installed a comprehensive surveillance and intruder alarm system at the new HQ of Ford main dealer, Kingsmead Motors. Kingsmead took over two old buildings in Bath and transformed them into showrooms, workshops, part stores and car display spaces. BWS took advantage of the major refurbishment to build in the security system from scratch.
Museum double
Surrey based Perimeter Security has completed two projects for the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Perimeter installed a sophisticated CCTV system at the National Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green and the Theatre Museum in London's West End. Both are administered by the V&A and the new technology is integrated with existing fire alarms and control systems.
The principal purpose of the systems is for post incident reporting. Cameras are a mixture of fixed and fully functional colour and monochrome with images recorded within a control room on each site.
They are designed not to be intrusive and to fit sympathetically within their environment.
Heavy duty protection
Perimeter Security has also completed the installation of two heavy duty barriers at the Royal Grammar School, Surrey, which has had problems with unauthorised parking in the school grounds.
The vandal resistant barriers are installed at the staff car park and at the rear entrance to the school. Although metal in construction to provide a high level of protection, the barriers are also said to be aesthetically designed not to detract from the school architecture.
They are controlled by proximity tags distributed to authorised users of the car park.
Bob Munday, MD of Perimeter, said they had been working closely with the school to reduce all aspects of crime: "Clearly the best way of reducing crime and criminal damage is to prevent intruders getting in in the first place."
Racing ahead on gates
MAC Systems of Irthlingborough, Northants, has installed a pair of bi-parting sliding gates to protect the inner compound at Jaguar racing’s headquarters at Milton Keynes. MAC chose a FAAC 820 sliding gate operator for the installation. The inner compound is home to the articulated trucks which transport the Formula 1 cars from country to country and act as team control centres and hospitality units. Because of this, Jaguar Racing’s management team decided to replace the old manual gates with a system that offered increased protection and was more user friendly. The FAAC 820 sliding gate operator is suitable for gates with a maximum length of 13m and maximum weight of 600kg. It has an anti-crushing device , power failure override, automatic locking, electronic limit switch and partial opening capability. On the record at Moor Park
Park House Integrated Systems has installed the Kollector digital security station from Vicon Industries at Moor Park Golf Club. Moor Park is famed for its clubhouse, an 18th century mansion which has Grade 1 listing. The Kollector range of digital recorders are standalone or networkable and record from 16 cameras simultaneously allowing instant recall of saved images both locally and across a network. It has connections to alarm sensors and relays. Park House integrated Systems has also supplied the club with Vicon Surveyor 2000 dome cameras as well as the company’s pan and tilts. Said Telford Payne of Park House: “The CCTV system performs a mixture of security and logistical functions. The club is monitoring vehicle flow, the perimeter of the clubhouse and usage of locker rooms”.Source
