Eastern Contracting has updated the high voltage distribution equipment at the John Innes Plant Science and Research Centre in Norwich.
The work was undertaken to cater for a planned expansion of the centre. The contract involved the replacement of an existing 3·5 MW high voltage distribution system with a new 8 MW supply. A new switchroom was created within an existing storeroom and a ten section high voltage panel installed.

The need to maintain constant temperatures to its greenhouses and other research areas made the planning of the project critical, with any shutdown of power to be minimised. To cater for this both old and new panels were live during a crossover period where during a series of weekend shutdowns the supply was able to be switched between the two systems.
