Heating and ventilation installer Farrelly Facilities & Engineering has won an employer of the year award for its family-friendly policies.
The innovation award was presented to the Sutton Coldfield-based HVCA firm by campaign group Parents at Work in recognition of new policies it has implemented.

The firm has banned employees from working before 8.30 am and after 5 pm and does not allow them to take work home. Staff used to work up to 80 hours a week. Training director Gerry Farrelly explains: “Employees who are treated well will treat customers well.”

The implementation of the policies has also led to the firm’s sales figures trebling over the past year.

Farrelly decided to change the culture at the firm after reading a 1998 survey stating only 20% of Britons enjoyed going to work.
