Securing a building that's frequently visited by many of the UK's foremost politicians – while retaining ease of access for the public at large – was the demanding brief set for Kaba (UK), whose Systems Integration Division had to design and install a bespoke access system at Four Millbank opposite the Houses of Parliament.
Used by the media, news agencies and a plethora of high-profile organisations for important meetings and broadcasts alike, some of the building's public areas (including the atrium) are finished in a classic marble design – thus an unobtrusive electronic access system was an 'essential' for client Healey & Baker.
In addition, the system had to be sophisticated enough to protect various non-public areas used by distinguished guests. Guests that would demand high levels of security at all times.
The solution? Legic LA-PB proximity readers. Part of Kaba's established Legic range, the LA-PB readers' inconspicuous design fulfils the desire for unobtrusiveness in the public areas.
In practice, members of the security team can now remotely open or lock doors and implement an anti-pass back policy, both essential in terms of providing the client with the central control that's necessary on what is a high profile site.
Crucially, Kaba's engineers have also designed the system so that the hardware can operate intelligently off-line from the local area control devices through to the individual card readers. This ensures that a tight level of security is maintained at all times to protect the media moguls and personalities in attendance.
